Getting ready for our adventure

We bought a boat in Texas - we live in Connecticut!  Sounds like a logistic nightmare - and to a point, it has been.  If it hadn't been for Henry and Margie Quigly, previous owners of the boat who graciously allowed us the leave DEBRIEF at their dock while we traveled back and forth over the last month and American Airlines for providing transportation, the task would have been impossible.  Add in FEDEX for their part in shipping thirteen boxes of 'stuff' for the boat. Also, Henry and Margie have been most helpful in preparing the boat for departure.

Tomorrow I will be making my fifth trip to Corpus Christi while Sue will be making her fourth but this time we plan to begin our journey home by boat - on Sunday, Dec 5th.  AT LAST!  Our first day will be short.  Going only as far as Port Aransas for fuel and an overnight stay to collect our thoughts and plan for the days ahead.

If you are not familiar with boats let me explain that our 43 ft North Pacific Pilot House Trawler is not built for speed so we will be taking our time making our trip back to CT.  Basically we will be traveling through the Gulf Coast Intracoastal Waterway as far as Carrabelle, FL then over to the west coast of FL where we will again pick up the GCWW and proceed to either Key West or short cut across FL at Lake Okeechobee to the FL east coast.  We then travel along the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway north to NJ and on to CT.  Along the way we will be taking breaks and coming home for a few days.  I'll be sure to check the WX to be sure there is no snow forecast those few days.

I will be making blog entries from time to time to keep you updated with our progress.  Somewhere along the line I hope to be able to enter pictures.  Actually, I'm surprised that I've gotten this far to establish this blog, entering pictures is another challenge!

Y'all stay vertical,

John C.
