Intracoastlal City, LA

After a night of rocking and rolling were underway early this morning.  We decided on a short day and ended up at a dock with no electric power but we were able to take on fuel and water and we can run the generator.  In fact the fuel we the least expensive we have seen so far and we took on more than we used on our sailboat in six years....
There weren't any truly exciting things happening  today.  Later in the day the scenery changed to more wooded ares and a few rice paddies.  Also, there was more obvious devastation from Hurricane Rita.  As we got closer to Intracoastal City the damage became more obvious.  This marina and most of the surrounding buildings were destroyed and few have been rebuilt on stilts with rigid construction.  I think the sole reason for this so called town is the oil industry.  The support activity for the Gulf oil wells is obvious with the numerous boats and helicopters that are often going in and out.  One of the locals said that there has been a big cutback in the activity due to the economy and the BP spill.  Yet everyone seems to be driving BIG pickup trucks.

Tomorrow we hope to get another early start for we are told that the activities between here and New Orleans become more involved.  More bridges, more locks and more security which can become time consuming.  I guess that is all part of our adventure. There is still a possibility that we can make New Orleans for Christmas.   Also, Colby will probably joins us for a few days during his last semester break.

Y'all stay vertical,
