Pensacola, FL

Another early departure for our short voyage to Pensacola, FL.  The weather was cold with clear sky's and light winds.  The temperature was 29 degrees and we had a coat of frost over the boat.
Early tomorrow morning Colby will be non-reving to DCA to go back to Harrisonburg.  He has a disk jockey gig scheduled for New Year's eve.  It sure was nice to have him aboard for ten days.
Today we crossed into Florida.  The border between AL and FL sways back and forth near the Gulf. It was strange to see an area of FL where you go south to get to AL or north from FL to AL.  The big difference after crossing into FL was the appearance of white sand beaches along the south shore of the ICW.  It looked like a commercial provided by the Chamber of Commerce.  Also more big condo complexes and hotels. Also, there were more dolphins swimming with the boat today.  They are a sight to watch when they ride our bow wave. At one time there were four of them performing together.
As we got closer to Pensacola we saw three Blue Angels airplanes and a few other assorted types of Navy aircraft arriving/departing the Pensacola Naval Air station.  The air station is the home is the home of the Blue Angels and they often practice here for their performances.  No, we did not see any of the practice sessions ;-(
We arrived around noon and rented a car for Colby and I to visit the Pensacola the Navy Air Museum while Sue went shopping.  Of course she found TJ Max, Home Goods and JoAnn's fabrics - and others.  The Navy museum was quite impressive but didn't come up to the standards of the Air Force museum at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.  However it was still a good visit.
Colby has an 0625 scheduled departure so it's quitting time for the night.
Y'all stay vertical,
Capt John and First mate Sue
and Colby, too

  1. Sounds like you are having a good trip after a rocky start. Stay warm as I hear the weather in Florida has been quite chilly. Glad Colby was able to join you on part of your adventure. Reading your blogs remind me of our trip on the ICW. It had some boring days but also some awesome beauty. Love the dolphins. Enjoy and hope you are taking pictures of the most spectacular sites.
