The winds died down this morning but the rain showers persisted with reduced visibility. Despite all that the other boat captain and I agreed that the thought of spending any dismal day in Panama City was repulsive. We didn't have far to go in the open water of the bay before we would be back in the ditch so we launched eastward. It was a dismal and boring day in the ditch. If it weren't for the numerous eagles and dolphins and the numerous bends and turns in the waterway I may have fallen asleep along the way. The sides of the ICW was lined with tall pine trees 90% of the way -and that's it. Oh, yes! The highlight of the day was crossing from Central Standard Time to Eastern Daylight Time. We lost an hour today! The weather cleared slightly as we neared Apalachicola and we made it to a dock for tonight and tomorrow night. There is a favorable weather window forecast for Tuesday and Tuesday night for us to make our long trip across the Gulf to Tarpon Springs. The reason for the direct route is to avoid the 'armpit of the panhandle'. The ICW ends Carabelle and begins again around Tarpon Springs. The boating along the coast around Tallahassee combined with the weather van become a real challenge so the loopers generally avoid that area. There are a few things I have to do on the boat and Sue wants to find a way to get to a shopping center for more provisioning. I'll be glad to get out of the FL panhandle.
Y'all stay vertical,
Captain John and First Mate Sue.
