Still in TARPON SPRINGS

The good news is that our US Mail caught up to us today.  The bad news is that we have been in Tarpon Springs three days.  A great place to visit.  Steeped in Greek heritage and sponges.  Yesterday was the Feast of the Epiphany and the village was crammed with visitors (mostly Greek) who came to witness an annual ritual where a cross is thrown into the river by a priest and young men (mostly Greeks) dive to recover the cross.  Tradition!  We had lunch in a Greek Restaurant with our Canadian friends and Sue shopped in Greek shops. All in all it was nice to see but it's time to move on.
Today Sue and I trekked the 2 miles back to town to see what we missed yesterday.  There were far fewer people in town and we had lunch in the same Greek restaurant.  Yes, it was good!  We bought a bottle of Greek wine back to the boat and felt obligated to empty it for happy hour ;-)
It's time to pay the bills that arrived in the mail today and be ready for an early departure tomorrow morning.  We are planning  to go as far as Gulfport but we will be encountering eight bridges along the way.  Our boat is 22 feet tall and at least one of the bridges is less then that height.  Two have a 25 feet clearance at high tide so the trip should be interesting.  The locks and barges we encountered along the Gulf Coast have been replaced by bridges, congestion and a few open bays to cross.  But all of that beats shoveling snow!!! and it's part of our adventure.
Y'all stay vertical,
Capt'n John and First Mate Sue

  1. And we have had snow. We got about 10 inches Friday on top of the blizzard leftovers. I found the locks quite interesting. We went through a small one on our trip. The bridges are always a treat to figure out when they open. Be safe.
