Fort Lauderdale is said to be the Yachting Capital of the World. The Lauderdale Marine Center is one of the largest boatyards in the U.S. This place has everything and anything you need for any sized boat. There are tradesman and specialists in every field having to do with boats - mostly large yachts. There is a travelift capable of 300 tons with a 30 ft beam. They can handle boats up to 180 ft in length and I think there are a few of those in the yard. I mentioned the bends and weaving we had to do to maneuver up the New River and wondered how the behemoths make up to this yard. They use two tug boats - one fore and one aft to maneuver around the bends. It's a quite a sight to see.
We had upholstery work done that needs to be reworked. That's the biggest reason for our stay here in the marine center. Last night Richard and Connie came down from Boca Raton and went out to rub elbows with the Ritz on Los Olas Boulevard and have dinner in a French restaurant. No question about it, there is money in this area.
Things are quite around here on the weekend. We are renting a car and do some sightseeing.
I'll be glad to get back to boating!
Y'all stay vertical,
Capt John and First Mate Sue
