We are presently anchored in Lake Santa Barbara, Pompano Beach, FL. We are the only boat in the 'lake' which is actually a small body of water just off the ICW surrounded by very nice homes with boat docks. Not the multimillion homes we saw along the ICW but very nice. I'm sure the local residents are accustomed to seeing boats anchored in front of their homes because this anchorage is just one of hundreds listed in cruising guides.
Today we encountered seventeen bridges between West Palm Beach and here. We could barely fit under a few of them and had to time the rest of them for opening schedules. With the strong current, constant radio chatter with boats talking to bridge tenders and numerous police patrol boats it got to be a tedious but interesting day. Today being a holiday there seemed to be more boats ranging from sailboards to mega yachts on the move. The police activity was present to go after boaters who violated 'no wake zones' of which there were plenty. When out of these zones boat wake became an issue because of the narrow ICW and the bulkheads lining the shore which bounced boat wakes back into the ICW creating havoc at times. I'm just glad our entire route is not like this.
Tomorrow we will make our way to a marina in Fort Lauderdale where we will take a break while we catch up on boat chores and possibly make a quick trip back to CT. Soon we will have to be pointing our bow north and making our way home - well after the snow melts.
Y'all stay vertical,
Capt John and First Mate Sue
