Manatee Pocket, Port Salerno/Stuart, FL

We had an early start today.  The weather was ideal so we decided that because we had seen this area on the way south we would make our way as far north as we could.  Tonight we are anchored in Manatee Pocket which is where we ended up when we made our way through the Okeechobee waterway.  This place is just as nice as it was when we visited here over three weeks ago.  We arrived early enough to have happy hour and have dinner on the upper deck before sunset.

As locks were an ubiquitous issue when were traversing the Gulf Coast and and the Okeechobee, bridges are the issue here in southern FL.  Today we passed under 20 bridges, five and a half of which had to open fro us.  The half bridge is one where only one half of the span opened because the other half was stuck closed.  I'm just glad the entire span wasn't stuck. With all of the boat traffic in the ICW that could become a very interesting situation.  Several of the bridges were just above our twenty three foot height which is always scary as you bearly clear the bottom of the span. The good news is that most of the bridges in northern part of FL are well above our clearance limit.  The other good news is that we are well more than half way home since leaving Padre Island, TX. As of tomorrow we will be traveling in areas that will be new to us which is all part of our adventure.

We have been living on our boat since early December with exception of the two weeks when we went back to CT.  Today was our thirty third day of actually being underway on the boat.  The bad news is that the budget crunch in CT may affect us in the way of news taxes on boats amongst other things ;-( That may take the joy out of boating for allot of people.  What a bummer!  I understand that aircraft owners in CT are facing the same style of new taxes.

Ya'all stay vertical,

Capt John and First Mate Sue
