This morning we got off to an early start in cold, rainy weather. The temperature was 42 degrees. Later in the morning the sun came come out and temperature hit 60 degrees. We passed through a rather new lock that was adjacent to one that it replaced. Oh, the joys of modern technology. As we neared the Lower Atchafalaya River we had to be in contact with Berwick Bay Traffic Service and report our position at check points as did all of the other boat traffic. I have no idea why this was required. We made it to the city dock in Morgan City for the night. As the cruising guide called it - it is rather primative but we found it to be quite acceptable. We arrived early enough to take a walk around the waterfront. Most places were closed Saturdays. The overnight rate at the dock is only $20. which includes electric. What a bargain.
We did see a few other pleasure boats today who were all associated with the American Great Loop Cruisers Association (AGLCA.com). Three were headed west towards Texas. Two of the trawlers were traveling from Muskogee, OK to Galveston. One that passed us was traveling from New Iberia, LA to the Bahamas. This cruising has opened up a new world and we are not yet near the usual Great Circle Route.
Sue put together another great meal aboard the boat. I finished a few boat chores. It's time to watch a little TV, get a little rest and be ready for another early departure.
Y'all stay vertical,
Captain John and First Mate Sue
You will find the Texas weather crazy like that. Coats in the morning; bikinis in the afternoon. Well, maybe that's a stretch, but you know what I mean. Continued safe travels to you.
