The weather improved greatly overnight. The strong winds let up and the seas calmed down considerably. We joined the ICW and continued along the Indian River for about ten miles before passing through the Hanover Canal into Mosquito Lagoon. We began to see more and more small non commercial fishing boats anchored in the shallow water adjacent. Men were walking in water up to their thighs near their anchore boats using rakes to bring up something from the bottom - probably clams. It seemed strange to see people standing in the water out in the middle of this very large body of water. We were still able to see the imposing buildings at the Kennedy Space Center for quite a while as we proceeded north. Houses were replaced along the mainland side of the waterway by more fish camps and mobile home parks until we got well north. It was a while before we began to see homes and condos again. The Lagoon changed names to the North Indian River and eventually became the Halifax River. We made a brief stop in New Symrna to pick up our mail. It had been forwarded to General Delivery by our Milford Post Office. The problem was the local PO near the marina had been consolidated into the main PO which was 2 1/2 miles away. I was able to borrow a bicycle to retrieve two weeks accumulation of mail and get some exercise at the same time.
It was still early afternoon after picking up the mail so we continued north and are now anchored a few hundred yards south of the Memorial Bridge in Daytona Beach. There is one other boat here and it's captain is a United Airlines pilot. Sue and I took the dinghy across the river and found a little restaurant for dinner. The dinghy sure has gotten a workout lately. We have to do a little planning for tomorrows boating. Friends we were planning to meet just north of here had to leave town for a family issue so we don't have to be anywhere in particular. Just keep moving north.
Y'all stay vertical,
Capt John and First Mate Sue
