Yesterday (Saturday) we left the Banana River and rejoined the ICW to continue our voyage north. The sea conditions were favorable and we made good time to Titusville, our next port of call. Nothing exciting along the except that we came close enough to the Kennedy Space Center to see the huge buildings and the launch towers. If we weren't anxious to continue north I suppose it would be nice to hang around this area to see the last of the space shuttle launches next month.
Arriving at the Titusville Marina early in the afternoon we had plenty of time to prepare for company we were expecting later in the day. I was able to wash down the boat to get the salt that had accumulated over the last few days. A disadvantage of anchoring is that there is no running water for tasks such as this. Sue tidied up the interior of the boat and prepared dinner for our guests. Albert, Margot and Audrey drove over from The Villages, located in the central part of the state, to see our condo on the water. After cocktail hour on the upper deck and dinner in the saloon and exchanged tales until late in the evening. It was a great visit but I don't think we can convince them to convert from golfing to boating.
It was a good thing our guests came yesterday because today was a different story weather wise. We took a day's delay here in Titusville because of the forecast winds. The forecast held true for we could see whitecaps outside the marina from the stiff NE winds that gusted up to 25 kts. In fact we had one foot rollers from the fetch here in the marina. One of the cruisers who had ventured out into the ICW today said they encountered three foot seas and plenty of spray which made for an uncomfortable day. That made a great day to get together with fellow Great Loopers here at the marina. Two couples came to our boat for happy hour. One of the couples are the Canadians we crossed the Gulf of Mexico with in January. They, too, left their boat in Fort Myers when they went back to Toronto for a month. We had also met the other couple in Fort Myers. They are from Montana but started their journey on the Mississippi River in Minnesota to join the loop. More interesting boating stories!
This morning we walked the short distance to town for Sunday breakfast. Needless to say there is not much to city of Titusville. In fact it is reminicient of the poor towns along the Gulf Coast. However, the only restaurant in the downtown area provided good grub, and that is what is important.
We are ready to move on. Tomorrows forecast is calling for improvement in conditions so maybe we can be on our way. The good news is that SPRING officially arrived this evening. How good is that?
Y'all stay vertical,
Capt John and First Mate Sue
