Yesterday morning we got another early morning start along with three other boats headed north. The conditions on Winyah Bay were quite different from the day before. It was a beautiful morning and the seas were fairly calm as we passed through the bay and entered the Waccamaw River and the ICW. The winds picked up later in the day but we had a pleasant voyage. At last we were out of the GA and SC lowlands with it marshes and into a waterway lined with trees and Cyprus swamps and the ICW didn't have as many twists and turns as we had in the lowlands. We had another bout of 'throttleitis' that we are becoming accustomed to because it's no longer a traumatic experience. That's not good - we have to get a handle on whatever is giving us this grief.
We passed through Myrtle Beach and entered the Coquina Yacht Club which is a yacht club in name only. There is no clubhouse but the facilities are quite nice. We tied off at a dock next to the Canadian couple whom we have met several different times along the way - we made the overnight Gulf of Mexico them. They had hit something underwater ICW and had a diver replacing a very bent prop. We had dinner with them last night and traded boating yarns. Today Sue and Ivy rented a car and went to the discount malls Myrtle Beach is supposedly known for. The surprising thing is that they both came back nearly empty handed but had a good day away from boats.
The Glendenning engineer showed up late in the afternoon and replaced the control processor and ran a new communications cable to the pilot house. He also found a faulty connection in the old processor. I sure hope he fixed our problem. It was actually refreshing to see someone from a company that was very concerned that their product was giving us so much grief. Also, the company had bench tested the throttle control that was replaced back in Ft Myers and found it to be in good working order. Tomorrow we get to put the system to the test while underway. We don't plan to go very far for we are stopping to visit friends in St James Plantation, NC where we may spend a few days. Then it's time to get moving along at a greater pace to be home before summer is over ;-)
Y'all stay vertical,
Capt John and First Mate Sue
